Big Northern Pike and Bigger Northern Pike! On Saveur the Journey's fly fishing trip to Swedish Lapland we are mostly chasing Arctic Char, Brown trout, and Arctic Grayling but catching big Pike on the fly in the marshes and lakes is a thrill as well!

Join us July 22-30 for a fly fishing trip under the midnight sun with a focus on the delicious foods of the north, such as reindeer, moose, lots of fresh fish, wild berries, and foraged wild edibles.

Skiing "Japow" in the Backcountry of Hokkaido. Still one of my favorite photos, taken by @jcski.ph a few years back.

Saveur the Journey is headed back to Hokkaido for 2 sessions this year, Jan 8-16 and Jan 17-25. We have a few spots available for advanced/expert level skiers and boarders on these guided (IFMGA guides and ski instructor), small group (max 12) trips.

These trips start with a day of cultural and food activities in Sapporo and then we spend 3 nights in Niseko (can also ski at Kiroro and Rusutu) before heading several hours north to central Hokkaido. Here we can ski at Furano or explore Daisetsuzan National Park for amazing ski touring.

Photos from Saveur the Journey's Provence 🇫🇷 Culinary Adventure led by @foodopiatravel. This is the seaside town of Cassis where we ate some great seafood (even the people who didn't like mussels, appreciated the mollusks packed with butter, garlic, parsley and breadcrumbs).
It was such a nice setting to eat, with the Mediterranean sea in front of us and the clean briney smell of the ocean on the air. Winds were high , which caused us to change our plans of a hike along the cliffs high above the sea.

On Saveur the Journey's Culinary Adventure to Prov

On Saveur the Journey's Culinary Adventure to Provence 🇫🇷 we did a hands-on baking workshop to learn French baking techniques which we had to follow up with some locally made pastis (anise flavored liqueur that is diluted with water and ice for a refreshing drink). Then Karima joined us for a Tunisian themed meal including these delicious "Brik"-a thin and crispy dough fried with a mixture of tuna, mashed potatoes, capers, parsley, and egg. This was followed by cous cous (steamed in the traditional way) and including flavorful and tender chicken legs, chickpeas and lots of vegetable. Dessert was date-paste filled pastries with sesame seeds and honey, followed by mint tea!

The beauty of the Alps always impresses me. This is from the Portes du Soleil, the second largest interconnected resort in the world comprised of 12 resorts straddling France and Switzerland. Every year Saveur the Journey leads a ski/snowboard and food themed trip here at the beginning of March. The French (being a very civilized country), have "ski vacations" alternating for two weeks during February, so we always go right after the vacations end and the resorts quiet down.

In addition to all kinds of skiing (long cruisey blues, steep blacks, couloirs, winding runs through the trees, etc) the food is top notch and we always stock the post-and-beam chalet where we stay with great local wines and wines from the famous regions of France.

Catching up on posting from Saveur the Journey's Provence 🇫🇷 Culinary Adventure led by @foodopiatravel from two weeks ago. We stayed at the lovely cottages of @lesmaisonsdechanteoiseau which had a beautiful infinity pool and charming scenery and people.

A short drive from our secluded cottages was a neighborhood restaurant called "Cocotte" that was everything that I want in a neighborhood restaurant. The service was warm and completely relaxed with absolutely no pretension, while remaining highly competent and professional. Vinyl records played, the restaurant was lively without being too loud, and the food beautiful, creative, and delicious. The owners came from Saint Tropez, where they had run a successful restaurant before escaping to the quiet countryside.

We dined on a salad of figues with goat cheese, mixed greens, roasted watermelon covered in sesame seeds, raspberries and olive "dust," followed by grilled lamb "kofta" on polenta with roasted vegetables and the most amazing chocolate cake with layers of hazelnut meringue. We drank several beautiful and interesting wines, including, surprisingly some from Greece. What I wouldn't give to have a restaurant like this close to where I live, or even 50 miles away!

Grilling marinated pork skewers and eggplant, hiking in the Hautes-Alpes of Provence while foraging for wild carrot seeds, cleaning the seeds and making a distillate (beauty product), and a lunch on the terrace.

This was a pretty special meal at Le Moulin de Léré. You don't get a Michelin star for nothing...

I went with French friends who play handball with the chef/owner so in addition to getting a few extra (and super delicious) courses, we also got to chat with Frédéric ("Fréd") at the end of the meal about cooking, growing vegetables, synchronicity, and life in general.
The food was amazing; carefully planned and executed, and always leaving you wanting more, just until the next course arrived!
